  • Automatic Updates: Keep Windows Update enabled. Most OS exploits target known vulnerabilities that already have available patches.

  • Paid antivirus (avast or mcafee): For most users, modern Microsoft Defender Antivirus is their first choice, but in fact this is the weakest antivirus that users can get. To have at least some security on your pc you should use paid antivirus with the following functions:
  • Real-Time Protection: ON
  • Cloud-Delivered Protection: ON
  • Automatic Sample Submission: ON
  • Periodic Deep Scans: Run a full system scan or offline scan periodically to catch persistent anomalies.
  1. Active Network Filtering (Firewall)
  • Windows Defender Firewall: Keep default profiles (Domain, Private, and Public) switched ON.
  • Rule Hygiene: Never disable the firewall completely when troubleshooting software—instead, create explicit inbound/outbound exception rules only when necessary.
  • Network Profile Selection: Ensure public Wi-Fi connections are always marked as Public Network in network settings to prevent unauthorized local file sharing or device discovery.
